Over Water: Dynamics of Dispossession Part I
Friday June 12, h. 18.00-21.00
Crotone, Associazione Dopolavoro Ferroviario

The territory is a common good shaped by the long-term interaction between human communities and the environment, now central to conflicts over water access and control. Cycles of scarcity and excess turn water management into recurring emergencies, often exploited for speculation. These dynamics reflect a development model that disrupts natural processes, described by some as the Capitalocene. The seminar adopts a broad notion of “water grabbing,” including privatization, pollution, deforestation, and soil sealing. Focusing on Calabria, it examines local conflicts to reveal the inequalities and contradictions embedded in this model of development.
